Description: Climate Crisis Speculative Future
Overview
As greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise, the clouds in our skies risk disappearing forever due to increased turbulence from warmer air. It could also have a devastating impact on all Western Hemisphere cloud forests, as most of them could lose their current cloud and frost environment, shrinking and drying out by 70% within 25 years.
To address this issue, we have developed this speculative design project focusing on a fictional future of Costa Rica's cloud forests. We have designed a series of artificial cloud-generating prototypes in chronological order and used them as narrative clues to present three thought-provoking future scenarios of how people in Costa Rica mitigate the climate crisis and save cloud forest species by artificially creating clouds. We aim to raise awareness about the potential consequences of climate change and inspire people to make more informed choices about how we live now.
