OVERVIEW
Toilet Mind Union, an innovative union pattern based on the space of the toilet. Using such ubiquitous spaces, an open source toolkit is designed to inspire people to engage, guide and support each other in organising activities. It serves as a reference for a new union model “the union in everywhere for everyone”. The idea is to facilitate a more flexible and simple way for workers to discuss and defend their rights and the rights of the people they care about at work.
DESIGN JOURNEY
This Design Journey book was not initially a part of our plan. What inspired us to create this book was the moment that we surprisingly found that our tutors, partners, and friends had a high appreciation for the research processes we described as the same as our design outcome when we were talking about our project.
Sure, why wouldn’t people be obsessed with the process? Those passionate discussions, crazy experiments, and even outlandish ideas were always charming. The journey of the design was just as important as the result of the design.
Although our path might not be good enough to be called Design Approach, it would show other designers why some mistakes are valuable, why some chaos is necessary, and how can the approach be smarter. For the public (yes, you), I also hope we can enlighten you on what design is: how it comes from life and go back to life again. So please, read it like a simple diary.
CONCLUSION
Toilet Mind Union is not a project that can be completed in ten weeks - the future of it will be more exciting and our current work is just the tip of the iceberg. I feel happy since raising this project that can enter the real world and keep growing. I know from the people I talk to that most of them can't wait for our project to enter their company toilets. The future creators of the Toilet Mind Union will be the public who wants to join in. Besides, We will continue to use our design skills to help keep the project alive, which will be a new starting point.
